Get into micro-teaching!!!!

Appreciating other peers’ micro-teaching and accepting Alice’s and peers’ comments and suggestion, I conceive of micro-teaching as a tough challenge. But it’s merely a basic requirement that every learner has to cope with as long as they want to be a teacher some other days. After the micro-teaching this Thursday (6/04), I become more determined to be a English teacher for the days ahead.

Of course, as an English-teacher-to-be, I would like to endeavor myself to effectively provide students with beneficial learning materials according to students’ learning curve. Though characteristic of passion and patience while teaching, I ought to bring about creative aura and active communication in class. My class shall focus on not only the listening and speaking trainings but also provide a couple of practices on reading and writing. Everything shall be in place. Bombarded with various givens, students are likely willing to spare no effort in enjoying the English class thoroughly. I will stimulate students to express their ideas. And no one is supposed to be silent in class. Also, my class allows for any suggestions and comments. I am preparing to be a qualified teacher and greatly looking forward to the class I may teach in the future.

20090514 Lillian’s course

On Lillian’s lecture, using blogs to teach composition is quite interesting. Blog teaching can close the distance between teacher and student. Before the students post his composition on the blog, he must hand in his draft to the teacher. Lillian said when she revises students’ composition, she would focus on grammar and sentence structures. After students revised his composition, he could post his article on the blog.

In addition to posting composition, students can communicate with each other. For example, Lillian even asks the higher level students give feedback to those students are not good at English learning. Students can learn each other.

20090604 May’s Microteaching

Although I have teaching experience, I still feel nervous when I was teaching. Time control is the most important part I need to improve. Maybe I can write down my teaching approach on the blackboard to remind myself.

Besides, how to communicate with students is also important. If I have enough time, I guess I can do well. Maybe I can simplify my teaching content, for example, I just focus on five questions not seven questions. I can show the answer on the ppt with different ways. Actually, when I went home, I REVISE my ppt again. It’s a pity that I have no chance to show it again.

20090530 Freshman’s English teaching

Teaching is really a good job because you can meet different students. Like my TA’s courses, I know a lot of freshmann students. Some of them always study hard; some of them try to study hard. Unfortunatedly, hard-working students can’t get the good grades, but some of absent students can get high grades. I often feel unfair….

No matter what I will encourage those students can’t get high grades. As we know, learning is a long-tme work. You get good grades now, but it doesn’t mean you can mantain it.

Studying English isn’t a short-time work. Be a teacher, you just try to encourage your students and to help them mantaing the passion of learning English.

For myself,

I have to forget all the frustrating moment on English-teaching class last week. It’s a coincidence, or a fate; but I still have to take it. Greatly thanks for Alice’s forgivenes from the bottom of my heart. And, other classmates’ micro teaching is interesting and topics are special. Mickey, Mother’s day, ghost, and song are included. I was moved. You all are my idols. Now, I am thinking about my micro-teaching. About my lesson plan, I am in urgent need of energy and inspiration. haha!! Section one is ok! I am working on section two. Jesus, I have to be hurry. ….to be continued

Lilian’s Coming~~

Lilian Liu, one of the prominent English teachers at at Lishan High School, joined our English-teaching class this morning and shared with us her teaching experiences. What I was most impressed is her programs of on-line creative writing. Creative writing, of course, is intriguing; but, it is also a tough task to deal with effectively. Actually, I didn’t believe the continuance of this writing program until Lilian displayed her teaching records. I was completely indulged in t Lilian’s creative-writing show in class. On-line creative writing is an astonishing case. It motivates students to express their inner thoughts, to design a attractive writing blog, and most important, to open up a magic dimension for communication among all students and teachers. Traditioanl restriction is gragually eliminating and distance doesn’t matter either. Everything is possible for creative writing. Students have chaces to grasp a lot of up-to-date information other than textual evidence. I really appreciate Lilian’s creative-writing programs, no doubt.

Lesson plan for Listening

Warm-up (10 minutes)

a. Teacher gives students a sheet of vocabulary, sentence patterns, & phrases, and discuss the meanings altogether.

b. Teacher tells students that the pre-listening discussion may be effective in listening to the text.

Body (30 minutes)

a. Teacher plays on the listening text for first time and tells students to take note.

b. Teacher gives students a sheet of listening text. And some sentences of the listening text are incomplete (as follows). Students have to fill the blanks while listening for the second time.

Eg. As the Atlantic Magazine r , the Beatles is the most f band around the world. If you are a m fan, you might h of the Beatles.

c. Finally, teacher encourages students to speak up the right words to the blanks of the incomplete sentences. (reports, famous, musical, hear…etc.)

d. Teacher provides answers to students’ questions if they still cannot find the correct answers.

Wrap-up (5 minutes)

a. Teacher ends by playing on the listening text once more and tells students to put everything away while listening, seeing how much students can grasp after previous practice.

b. The listening class is dismissed and see you guys next time.

about English-Reading class

Warm-up

a. Teacher begins by sharing with students a hard-copy of illustration regarding the text.

b. Teacher actively reveals some information about the illustration.

Body

a. Teacher divides all students into small group, around four or five students per group.

b. Teacher raises some questions about the illustration and encourages each group to express their opinions in English.

Now, it’s time for jigsaw-reading

c. Teacher gives students some slips of paper based on the reading text. Then teacher encourages each group to compose the reading text.

d. After a couple of minutes, each group stands up and read altogether the composed text.

e. Teacher again provides each student with the complete version of the reading text.

f. According to the reading’s complete version, students can find out what mistakes they might make in comparison with the one of jigsaw-reading exercise.

g. Students feel free to discuss with teacher some questions that cannot be solved by themselves. Teacher meanwhile instantly gives some feedback.

Wrap-up

a. Teacher ends up the class by giving per student another hard-copy of illustration and assigns them to write down a short passage based on the illustration.

b. In next reading class, students shall bring and raise any question about the short passage.

20090326 Hedy’s teaching

From Hedy’s class performance, she introduce how to use the mind map. The mind map can be used in Listening, reading, writing and speaking.

She even mentioned how to give appropriate examples. Like the concept of “IF” sentence, we could give students some examples about real life, such as ” If it raines tomorrow, we will …” It meant that we should interact students’ learning knowledge. As a teacher, we should think how to activate the teaching materials for students.

However, I think that Hedy really gave us useful advice, not only how to teach but how to be an “energetic teacher.” She is really a nice teacher. I should learn her teaching spirit.
